Judges issued arrest warrants for the five suspects, two men aged 22 and one each aged 21, 25 and 28, after police gathered evidence and testimony against them. Police stopped a vehicle carrying the five suspects during a coordinated operation in the Paphos district. A search of the vehicle turned up a pistol, two knives, gloves, masks and three mobile phones, all of which were seized. Officers then searched the suspects’ residence in Paphos, seizing eight more mobile phones, 1,400 US dollars in cash, and documents, notes and other evidence. The five suspects were taken into custody and are expected to appear before a court today for a remand order. Denmark tip-off on murders for hire The investigation began after Denmark’s authorities passed information to Cyprus police via Europol about planned murders for hire in Cyprus. A previous operation in the Larnaca and Famagusta districts led to the arrest of three more suspects, aged 33, 34 and 35, who remain in eight-day custody. The case is being investigated by a Special Investigative Team from Police Headquarters, working with police authorities in other countries and Europol.
