The 46-year-old remains in critical condition at a private hospital in Limassol following the attack, a case that has shocked public opinion and remains under close scrutiny by the authorities. Investigators are waiting for her condition to improve so that a statement can be taken, which they believe could clarify several key questions that remain unanswered. Police are also analysing CCTV footage and assessing testimony from people who knew the couple. Police say case under full investigation Police have stressed that the case is subject to a full and thorough criminal investigation, and that any public comment on the facts at this stage would be premature and could affect the investigation. In a statement issued two days ago, police said there would be no further comment until the investigation is complete, adding that only a full investigation would establish all the facts. Police also noted that they have an established Human Resources Support Branch staffed by registered psychologists, which provides psychological support and runs prevention and training programmes. Debate over support for police officers Meanwhile, public debate has turned to strengthening the institutional mechanisms for evaluating and supporting police officers, particularly in relation to firearms carrying. Stella Katsari, vice-president of the Cyprus Psychologists’ Association, said there was a need for a clear framework of ongoing evaluation and psychological support that would function as a mechanism for prevention and institutional accountability. She said systematic individual and group psychological support was particularly important for units that come into contact with vulnerable populations or are exposed to traumatic incidents and distressing material.
