Russian President Vladimir Putin has cast his vote online in the elections of deputies to the 9th State Duma. Footage published by the Kremlin’s press service shows the head of state sitting at a computer in his office and clicking away to cast his vote. Over the past few years, Putin has preferred to cast his vote remotely. In 2024, he also voted online – in the presidential elections and in the elections to the Moscow City Duma. Earlier, he took part remotely in the autumn single voting day, including in the Moscow mayoral elections. The single voting day to elect lawmakers to the 9th Russian State Duma will take place on September 18-20. For the first time ever, residents of the recently incorporated Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions, will participate in legislative elections for the lower house of the Russian parliament. A total of ten parties are taking part in the election: United Russia, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), the Liberal Democratic Party of the Russian Federation (LDPR), New People, A Just Russia – For Truth, the Party of Pensioners for Social Justice, the Communists of Russia, Rodina, the Party of Direct Democracy, as well as the Greens Ecological Party. Elections will be held simultaneously to the legislative assemblies of 39 regions, as well as of the highest-ranking officials of the constituent entities: in eight regions, they will be direct elections; in three regions, they will be elected by regional parliaments.
