In a pivotal moment for the iconic British brand, Range Rover has unveiled its first all-electric model, marking a significant transition into the electric vehicle market. This launch comes more than fifty years after the introduction of the original luxury SUV, showcasing the brand's commitment to evolving while maintaining the core values that have defined it: luxury, comfort, and genuine off-road capability.

The new Range Rover Electric is equipped with two powerful electric motors, each generating an output of 260 kW. This configuration delivers a combined power output of 550 PS and an impressive torque of 850 Nm, making it the most torque-rich Range Rover to date. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in a swift 4.3 seconds, demonstrating its performance capabilities alongside its luxury features.

A major consideration for electric vehicles is their range, and the Range Rover Electric does not disappoint. It features a double-stack lithium-ion battery with a usable capacity of 118.5 kWh, comprising 344 prismatic cells. The official range is estimated at approximately 598 kilometers according to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), while Range Rover anticipates a real-world range of up to 535 kilometers.

The vehicle's 800-volt architecture allows for rapid charging, a crucial feature for electric vehicle users. With a compatible 350 kW DC fast charger, the Range Rover Electric can charge from 10% to 80% in around 22 minutes. Even more striking is the capability to add up to 220 kilometers of range with just ten minutes of charging at maximum power.

Despite the shift to electric propulsion, Range Rover has ensured that the new model retains its traditional off-road capabilities. The Integrated Traction Management system controls the speed of the electric motors in just 50 milliseconds and can manage wheel slip significantly faster than traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. This system allows for controlled starts on gradients of up to 33 degrees and enables the vehicle to climb gradients of up to 45 degrees with momentum. Additionally, the Range Rover Electric can wade through water depths of up to 900 mm, further solidifying its off-road credentials.

The development of the Range Rover Electric has been extensive, with over 1.5 million kilometers of testing conducted in various conditions, from the freezing temperatures of Sweden to the scorching heat of the Dubai desert. The model has also undergone more than 250,000 hours of both physical and digital testing, leading to the filing of over 300 patent applications related to its innovative features.

Production of the Range Rover Electric will take place at the historic Solihull plant in the UK, where the Range Rover has been manufactured since 1970. This location is significant for the brand, symbolizing a continuity of heritage as it embraces modern technology.

Orders for the new model are now open, with a variety of trim levels available, including SE, HSE, Autobiography, SV, SV Ultra, and SV Black, along with a specially-configured First Edition. This diverse range of options allows customers to choose a model that best suits their preferences and needs.

As Range Rover enters this new chapter, it aims to blend its rich legacy with the demands of a changing automotive landscape, ensuring that luxury and performance remain at the forefront of its electric future.
