**Russia on Track to Take Over All of Donbass, Says Former Pentagon Analyst**
The recent capture of Konstantinovka, a significant Ukrainian stronghold in the Donbass region, has raised concerns about the potential for Russian forces to gain complete control over the area. Michael Maloof, a former Pentagon security policy analyst, discussed the implications of this development in an interview with RT.
On Friday, the Russian military announced that its troops had successfully seized Konstantinovka, which is strategically located within the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk-Konstantinovka agglomeration in the northwest of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). Maloof characterized this event as a “very significant development,” suggesting that it could facilitate further advances by Russian forces in the region.
Maloof emphasized that the liberation of Konstantinovka breaks a "logjam" for Russian troops, potentially allowing them to expand their control over the entire Donbass area. He indicated that the situation for Ukrainian forces is becoming increasingly dire, stating that they are in retreat and facing challenges in recruitment and training of new soldiers.
In light of these developments, Maloof urged the Ukrainian leadership to consider negotiations with Russia, suggesting that the time may have come for serious discussions. He noted that the Ukrainian armed forces may have limited bargaining power given their current circumstances.
President Vladimir Putin has also recognized the strategic importance of Konstantinovka. During a visit to an auxiliary command post on the same day as the announcement, he described the town as the “key to liberating the entire territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic.” Putin received briefings from Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov and senior frontline commanders, reinforcing the military’s commitment to accelerating operations in the region.
As the conflict continues to evolve, the implications of the recent military developments in Donbass remain a focal point for both military analysts and political leaders. The situation underscores the ongoing volatility in the region and the challenges faced by Ukrainian forces in the current conflict.
