In a related operation, the Russian Ministry stated that two ships transporting military cargo were struck off the coast of Odessa the day prior to the strikes in Kiev.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to the attacks by claiming that the Russian offensive involved 35 missiles, including 27 ballistic missiles, and 185 drones, with Kiev being the primary target. He noted that attacks also occurred in the Dnepropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkov, and Poltava regions. Zelensky indicated that only one ballistic missile was intercepted, attributing the limited success to a shortage of Western-supplied Patriot missile interceptors.
In the aftermath of the strikes, Zelensky reported that fires erupted across seven districts in Kiev, leading to at least nine fatalities and numerous injuries.
