Nicosia, Cyprus – The eagerly awaited Constantia Open Air Cinema’s Summer Film Marathon has returned for its 27th edition, offering film enthusiasts in Nicosia a chance to enjoy a diverse selection of cinematic works under the stars. The event runs from July 15 to September 13, 2023, with screenings taking place every Wednesday through Sunday.

Organized in collaboration with the Deputy Ministry of Culture and Theatro Ena, this year’s marathon promises an exciting lineup that emphasizes independent films and local stories. The opening film, *Memory of a Sweet Homeland*, is a historical documentary written and directed by Stavros Papageorgiou. It explores the lesser-known narrative of Greek refugees from Asia Minor who fled to Cyprus following the Asia Minor Catastrophe of 1922.

The program features a variety of award-winning films that have garnered international acclaim at prestigious film festivals. Among the highlights is *Hamnet*, directed by Chloé Zhao, which is based on the bestselling novel by Maggie O’Farrell. This film has received significant recognition, including an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2026, and was named one of the American Film Institute’s Top 10 Films of the Year in 2025. It also won a Golden Globe for Best Picture and Best Actress, along with eight Academy Award nominations.

Other notable films in this year’s lineup include *It Was Just an Accident*, directed by Jafar Panahi, and *Perfect Days*, directed by Wim Wenders. The marathon will also showcase *The Cut*, a historical drama directed by Fatih Akin that focuses on the Armenian experience, and the documentary *Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk*, directed by Sepideh Farsi, which provides a poignant look at life in the besieged Gaza Strip.

In addition to international films, the marathon will highlight local cinema, featuring productions such as *Kapodistiras*, directed by Yannis Smaragdis, and *Smaragda: I Got Thick Skin and I Can’t Jump*, directed by Emilios Avraam. The latter film received accolades for Best Cypriot Film and Best Performance at the Cyprus Film Days International Festival in 2025.

This year, the Constantia Summer Film Marathon is also collaborating with the Queer Wave Film Festival to present the Norwegian film *Love (Kjærlighet)*, directed by Dag Johan Haugerud, further enriching the festival’s diverse offerings.

Screenings are scheduled to begin at 9 PM, with tickets priced at €5 each or a season pass available for €55. The event is set to take place at the Constantia Open Air Cinema in Nicosia, providing a unique outdoor viewing experience for film lovers.
