THEATRE Limassol, Ancient Theatre of Kourion, arrival 8pm. The National Theatre of Greece brings Euripides’ Alcestis, directed by Dimitris Karantzas, closing today’s International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama. A constant hovering between life and death, play and nightmare, crushing tragedy and unexpected comedy. The picturesque village of Koilani in Limassol district hosts the International Animation Festival of Cyprus for the first time, combining screenings of international and Cypriot films, workshops, exhibitions, educational activities, music events and meetings with creators from Cyprus and abroad. Michalis and Petros Koulloumis present a musical and dance performance dedicated to Cypriot musical tradition, part of the 2026 Cultural Decentralisation Programme. Michalis Koulloumis (violin), Petros Koulloumis (voice, laouto) and Eleni Koki (santouri), together with the Dionysos Cultural and Dance Association and the Ieroi Kipoi Cultural Association, accompany the music with dance presentations of Cypriot tradition. The Chara Miller Jazz Quartet promises an evening dedicated to timeless jazz and swing melodies. Tonight and on September 6, the festival screens “The Teacher” (In the Shadow of the Orange Tree), directed by Cherien Dabis. An epic family saga spanning three generations, beginning with the family grandfather’s displacement from Jaffa in 1948 during the Nakba, through to the modern-day challenges of Israeli occupation in the West Bank.
