**Thirteen Arrested in Island-Wide Police Crime Prevention Operation**
In a significant law enforcement initiative, thirteen individuals were arrested during a series of coordinated police operations across Cyprus on Friday night. This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the Cypriot police to enhance public safety and prevent crime.
The arrests were made in connection with various offenses, including illegal drug possession, illegal employment, and drink driving, among other criminal activities. The police reported that these operations were extensive, involving the stopping of approximately 600 vehicles and the checking of 973 individuals throughout the night.
In addition to the arrests, police conducted inspections at 59 different premises, resulting in 15 reports for various offenses. This comprehensive approach highlights the police's commitment to addressing multiple facets of crime, from traffic violations to drug-related offenses.
Traffic enforcement was a significant focus during the operations. Officers reported a total of 317 drivers for a range of road traffic violations. Among these violations, 103 drivers were caught exceeding the speed limit, leading to the impounding of 10 vehicles. Furthermore, police conducted 304 breathalyser tests, with 21 drivers found to be operating their vehicles under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, two preliminary drug tests were administered, both of which yielded positive results.
The police have indicated that these targeted crime prevention and enforcement operations will continue on a daily basis. Citizens can expect an increased police presence and intensified checks throughout the island as authorities strive to maintain public safety and deter criminal activity.
