In a series of overnight police operations conducted throughout Cyprus on Sunday, three individuals were arrested for various offences, including illegal possession of drugs and suspected stolen property. The police reported these developments on Monday, highlighting the extensive measures taken to ensure public safety.
During the operations, law enforcement officials stopped a total of 568 vehicles and checked 715 individuals. These actions were part of a broader strategy to address crime and enhance security across the island.
In addition to vehicle and individual checks, police officers inspected 46 premises, which resulted in three reports for various offences. The inspections and checks were part of a comprehensive effort to deter criminal activity and enforce the law.
Traffic enforcement was a significant focus of the operations. Police issued 421 reports related to traffic violations, with a notable 150 of those specifically for speeding. Furthermore, authorities are currently investigating an additional 11 traffic offences. As part of the traffic operations, ten vehicles were impounded for various reasons.
To address concerns related to driving under the influence, police conducted 92 breathalyser tests, leading to two reports for drink-driving. Additionally, they carried out seven preliminary roadside drug tests, with four returning positive results, indicating a potential issue with drug use among drivers.
The overnight operations reflect the ongoing commitment of the Cyprus police to maintain law and order, tackle drug-related offences, and ensure the safety of all citizens. The police have emphasized the importance of such patrols in preventing crime and promoting responsible driving practices.
As the police continue their efforts, they encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help foster a safer community.
