**Tobacco Products Seized at Deryneia Crossing Point**
Deryneia, Cyprus - Customs officials conducted a routine check at the Deryneia crossing point on Sunday, resulting in the seizure of 14 cartons of cigarettes. The incident was reported on Tuesday, highlighting the ongoing enforcement of the Green Line Regulation.
The cigarettes were discovered in the luggage of an Israeli passenger who was traveling in a taxi registered in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) en route to Larnaca Airport. During the inspection, customs officials noted that the tobacco products lacked the necessary health warnings in both Greek and Turkish, as well as essential security features and unique traceability codes. These deficiencies indicated that the duty on the products had not been paid.
As a result of the violation, the tobacco products were confiscated by customs, and plans were made for their destruction. The passenger involved in the incident was initially taken into custody but was later released after agreeing to an out-of-court settlement. The settlement included a payment of €840.
This incident underscores the importance of compliance with regulations governing the movement of goods across the Green Line, which separates the Republic of Cyprus and the TRNC.
