Two road collisions occurred at the same spot in Nicosia within three and a half hours on Sunday, with both drivers testing over the legal alcohol limit, police said on Monday. The first crash happened around 10pm when a 44-year-old driver lost control on Ayios Prokopios Street and hit a streetlight pole. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to Nicosia general hospital. His alcohol reading was 42μg, against a limit of 22μg. The road was temporarily closed while the damaged pole was repaired. At around 1.30am on Monday, a second car collided with a police vehicle parked at the scene with its lights and beacons on. A police officer was injured and taken to hospital. The 22-year-old driver recorded 57μg of alcohol. Both drivers were charged out of court for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police investigations are ongoing.
