**Two Remanded in Limassol After Major Drug Bust Involving 27.5kg of Ketamine**
Limassol, Cyprus – In a significant drug bust, local authorities have detained two individuals following the discovery of 27.5 kilograms of ketamine in an apartment in Limassol. The operation, conducted by the drug squad YKAN, took place on Wednesday and also uncovered smaller quantities of other illegal substances, including cannabis, mephedrone, MDMA, and cocaine.
The two male tenants, aged 23 and 24, were present during the search and were arrested at the scene. The Limassol criminal court has since remanded them for eight days as investigations continue. During the incident, a scuffle reportedly broke out, resulting in injuries to one police officer.
In addition to the large quantity of ketamine, authorities seized 377 grams of cannabis, 776 grams of mephedrone, 269 grams of MDMA, and 172 grams of cocaine. A cash sum of €10,000 was also found in the apartment, raising further questions about the nature of the operation being conducted by the two men.
According to police reports, the suspects arrived in Cyprus on September 20 and had rented the apartment just four days later, on September 24. They were scheduled to leave the island on September 29, which has led investigators to scrutinize their activities during their short stay.
The case is being examined for potential links to a previous drug bust earlier in September, where authorities discovered 386 kilograms of ketamine. That earlier incident involved an Israeli and a Palestinian couple, who are currently under investigation as suspects in that case.
As the investigation unfolds, police are working to determine the full extent of the drug operation and any connections between the two sets of suspects. The significant quantities of drugs involved in both cases highlight ongoing concerns regarding drug trafficking in the region.
Authorities have not disclosed whether the two men in custody have any prior criminal records or if they are believed to be part of a larger network. The situation remains fluid as YKAN continues its inquiries into the matter.
