**Two Test Positive for Drug Driving During Nationwide Police Operations**
In a coordinated effort to enhance road safety, police across Cyprus conducted a series of operations on Monday night, leading to significant traffic enforcement results. The operations resulted in four arrests, the issuance of 247 traffic offence reports, and two drivers testing positive for drugs in preliminary screenings.
The police efforts were part of a broader initiative aimed at addressing various traffic-related violations and ensuring compliance with the law. Officers stopped a total of 398 drivers and 133 passengers during the operations, reflecting a comprehensive approach to monitoring road safety.
Among the 247 traffic offence reports filed, speeding emerged as the most common violation, with 65 drivers cited for exceeding the speed limits. This highlights ongoing concerns regarding speeding as a significant factor in road safety incidents. Additionally, seven vehicles were impounded during the operations, and police are currently investigating 14 other traffic-related cases.
In addition to traffic violations, the operations also targeted unlawful residence in the republic, leading to the arrest of four individuals for various offences. This aspect of the operation underscores the police's commitment to addressing not only traffic safety but also broader legal compliance within the community.
As part of the enforcement measures, officers conducted 91 alcohol tests on drivers. Fortunately, none of the tested drivers were found to be over the legal limit, indicating a positive outcome in terms of alcohol-related driving offences during this operation.
However, the operations did reveal concerns regarding drug use among drivers, as two individuals tested positive in preliminary roadside drug tests. These drivers will undergo further examination as part of the investigative process, which aims to ensure that those who drive under the influence of drugs are held accountable.
Overall, the police operations reflect a proactive stance in promoting road safety and legal compliance across Cyprus. The results of the night’s enforcement activities demonstrate the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in addressing traffic violations and ensuring the safety of all road users.
