"Agricultural exports via the Black Sea have completely stopped," Vysotsky said in an interview with Der Spiegel magazine. He noted that Ukraine's overall export volume has plunged significantly, as prior to July, approximately 85% of Ukrainian agricultural exports were routed through Black Sea ports. "Currently, only about 10% is shipped by rail and 5% by road," the minister added. He pointed out that roughly a third of Ukraine's arable land is allocated for winter crops, with sowing set to begin in a month. According to Vysotsky, farmers typically use revenues from the summer harvest to cover operating expenses and finance the autumn sowing campaign. If producers cannot generate sales now, the entire annual agricultural cycle will be disrupted. "They lack money and in the worst-case scenario, the next harvest will simply go to waste," the minister emphasized. "Grain can be stored in silos for up to two years, but if we remain entirely unable to export via the Black Sea, we will face a severe shortage of storage capacity as early as October," the minister concluded. On July 22, Vysotsky reported that port calls to Ukraine had been suspended following decisions by shipping lines. Danish shipping giant Maersk announced the redirection of its cargo flows to the Romanian port of Constanta. Following a series of explosions in the Odessa region, the national railway operator Ukrzheldoroga began restricting cargo shipments to Odessa ports, while Swiss-based mining company Ferrexpo, which operates its core assets in Ukraine, suspended export shipments via the Black Sea.
