The initiative involves the transformation of an existing industrial warehouse into a modern recycling plant. This facility will be designed for the reception, sorting, dismantling, and temporary storage of various types of waste. Flanxo Holdings Ltd is tasked with the implementation of the project, while WEEE Cyprus Ltd will oversee its management. The organization operates as the only licensed collective compliance scheme for electrical and electronic waste management in Cyprus and collaborates closely with Green Dot (Cyprus) to ensure the effective operation of the waste management system.

Once operational, the recycling plant is expected to handle approximately 5,190 tonnes of waste annually. The facility will focus on a diverse range of materials, including large and small electrical appliances, screens, televisions, refrigerators, air conditioning units, batteries, toner and ink cartridges, fluorescent lightbulbs, and expired pharmaceutical products. The overarching goal of the project is to significantly reduce the volume of waste directed to landfills and enhance environmental quality through effective material recovery.

The plant will function as a reception site where waste will undergo visual inspection, weighing, and manual sorting. According to projections spanning the next decade, the estimated annual volumes for each waste category are as follows:

- Electrical and electronic waste (including large and small appliances, screens, refrigerators, air conditioning units, and solar panels): 5,000 tonnes

- Batteries: 90 tonnes

- Toner and ink cartridges: 50 tonnes

- Fluorescent lightbulbs: 35 tonnes

- Expired household medicines: 15 tonnes

A critical stipulation for waste acceptance at the facility is that all materials must be devoid of liquid residues. Sorted materials will be stored temporarily until collected by specialized licensed contractors for further processing.

The recycling plant will be situated on a 6,509-square-metre plot within the Category A Special Industrial Zone, designated for heavy industrial use in Dali. This location ensures compliance with local town planning regulations. Since the building is already in existence, the construction phase of the project will be limited and is expected to last approximately four months. Planned improvements include tarmacking the outdoor area to prevent pollution, creating a covered sorting space, and installing a weighbridge.
