Social media users reported torrential rain in the Troodos area and other mountainous regions. Police said in an update that heavy rainfall in Spilia, Kannavia, Galata and Kakopetria is affecting traffic on the local road network, with visibility limited for passing drivers. The warning for isolated intense storms remains in effect until 6pm. According to the warning, instability affecting Cyprus is expected to bring intense weather, mainly in mountainous and inland areas and possibly along the eastern coast. Hail cannot be ruled out during storms, while rainfall intensity is expected to locally range between 35 and 55 millimetres per hour. Tuesday’s rain follows a day of unusually heavy downpours across the island on Monday, when footage from Nicosia showed conditions described locally as unusual for mid-August. Areas including Agios Dometios, Latsia, Mathiatis and Machairas saw rain, while police reported torrential downpours and reduced visibility on the Nicosia–Limassol motorway near Kornos and Kofinou. Rain was also recorded around Larnaca airport, Kornos, Skarinou and Kofinou.
