Ancient city-kingdom with a Greco-Roman theatre, mosaics, baths and dramatic sea views.
Kourion is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Cyprus. It sits on a high coastal cliff west of Limassol and combines ancient ruins with wide views of the Mediterranean. The restored Greco-Roman theatre is the most famous landmark and is still used for cultural events.
Visitors can see the theatre, the House of Eustolios, early Christian basilica remains, Roman baths, mosaics and traces of the ancient city. The site is large enough to feel like a real ancient settlement rather than a single monument.
Visit in the morning or late afternoon during summer. There is limited shade, so water, sunscreen and comfortable shoes are important. Kourion combines well with Kolossi Castle, Governor’s Beach or Limassol.
