According to information reliably obtained by “Phileleftheros”, most of the 101 charges, based on four offences, relate to Drousiotis. Charges multiplied The number of charges is high because Drousiotis faces them multiplied, in proportion to the number of people who complained about his publications. Notably, the harassment charge in the indictment relates, according to a source at our newspaper, to individuals who felt aggrieved by what he published. Among the complainants were former Supreme Court judge Michalakis Christodoulou and three members of his family, former MEP Dimitris Papadakis, EDEK official Morfakis Solomonidis, and Greek government official Giorgos Mylonakis. Most of them had reported Drousiotis to Cyprus Police. Court timeline The case was filed yesterday morning at Nicosia District Court, where officers from Police Headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department attended for that purpose. The first appearance of the two defendants, K.K. and Drousiotis, has been set for September 16, when the case will be referred to the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia. The offences The Law Office confirmed in an official statement yesterday that the 101 charges relate to the following offences: drafting a forged document, circulating a forged document, publishing false news, and harassment. According to a source at “Phileleftheros”, Drousiotis faces charges relating at least to circulating forged documents, publishing false news, and harassment. Drafting and circulating a forged document carry broadly the same penalty on conviction: up to seven years’ imprisonment for either offence. Publishing false news, under Article 50 of the Criminal Code, carries up to two years’ imprisonment or a fine, and applies where false information could disturb public order or public confidence in the state, or cause fear or public unrest, with a defence available if the publication is shown to have been made in good faith. Prosecution under this article requires the Attorney General’s written consent. Harassment, under Article 3 of the 2021 Protection from Harassment and Harassing Surveillance Law, carries up to two years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to €5,000, or both, provided the conduct is not more severely punishable under another law. Fabricated messages K.K., 45, widely known as “Sandy” because of the nickname given to her by Drousiotis, is considered certain to face charges of drafting forged documents. As “Phileleftheros” had revealed on April 8, the police investigative team looking into the case, acting on testimony it had received, was examining an application used to prepare fake messages. It later emerged that on April 2, “Sandy” had told police she had fabricated the messages herself. According to a court document, K.K. admitted in a written statement that both the messages shown in Drousiotis’ post and her claimed relationship with Judge Michalis Christodoulou were untrue, saying she created the messages on her phone using the “Call Assistant” application and sent fabricated conversations to lawyer Nicos Clerides while lying to him about their authenticity. Drousiotis’ reaction In a post on social media, Drousiotis appeared to attribute his prosecution to what he described as the dark motives of former and current executive officials. He said he had received a charge sheet accusing him of knowingly publishing forged messages, and described the case as a diversion from the Videogate affair and a helping hand to former President Nicos Anastasiades. He alleged the Law Office grants immunity to serious offenders in murder and drugs cases to turn them into witnesses in secondary cases, said he was a key witness in the “Mafia State” case, and claimed the Law Office was neutralising him by making him a defendant. He said Attorney General Giorgos Savvides and Deputy Attorney General Savvas Angelides, who he noted had recused themselves from the “Mafia State” proceedings despite being referenced both in his own reporting and in “Sandy”‘s messages, had filed the charge sheet against him and in their own interest. He said investigative journalism was being dragged into criminal courts under Nikos Christodoulides, adding: “Rule of law in ruins.” Earlier publications Drousiotis began publishing his claims on March 30, alleging the existence of a network with international reach and a strong presence in Cyprus, and pointing to alleged illegal activity involving former Supreme Court judge Michalakis Christodoulou, the involvement of other officials, links to political figures, and large sums of money. His posts raised questions about the justice system and judicial integrity, and referenced the roles of former President Nicos Anastasiades, DISY MP Nicos Tornaritis, Dimitris Papadakis, and EDEK deputy leader Morfakis Solomonidis. He also alleged manoeuvring in the judicial handling of one of the Focus cases, involving defendants Christodoulos Christodoulou, Michalis Zolotas and Michael Foley, and linked that case to what he described as the premature appointment of Giorgos Savvides and Savvas Angelides as Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General respectively. His posts included phrases such as “Paedophilia, forced sales, surveillance and rigged trials.” “Phileleftheros” had obtained more than 150 messages from “Sandy”‘s archive and published a summary account of their contents on April 6, without naming individuals due to the lack of confirmation of their authenticity. The material was submitted to a member of the police investigative team on April 9.
