**Duty-Free Tobacco Haul in Limassol Leads to Arrest and Settlement**
Limassol, Cyprus – In a significant operation on Sunday, the customs department confiscated a substantial quantity of duty-free tobacco products from a residence in Limassol. The action followed a tip-off from the police drug squad, which led customs agents to the home of a 52-year-old man originally from Syria.
On Monday, the customs department reported the details of the operation, revealing that agents discovered a large cache of tobacco products during their search. The haul included nine cartons containing 200 cigarettes each, six individual packets of 20 cigarettes, two packages of hookah tobacco weighing 250 grams each, and three packages of rolling tobacco, each weighing 50 grams.
The customs department stated that all confiscated tobacco products will undergo the prescribed destruction procedure, in line with regulations governing duty-free items. The illegal possession of such products raises concerns regarding tax evasion and compliance with local laws.
Following the search and seizure, the suspect was taken into custody. However, he was later released after proposing an out-of-court settlement. The terms of the settlement included a payment of €1,000, which was accepted by the authorities.
