**Eight Arrested and 295 Traffic Fines Issued in Nationwide Police Operation**
In a concerted effort to enhance public safety and deter criminal activity, the Cyprus police conducted a series of targeted operations across the island on Thursday night, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals and the issuance of 295 traffic fines for various violations.
According to a statement released by the police on Friday, the operations were part of an ongoing initiative to maintain an intensified presence in key urban areas. Officers engaged in organized patrols aimed at preventing serious crime, maintaining public order, and bolstering the community's sense of security.
During the operations, police arrested eight people for a variety of offences. These included theft by an employee, illegal residency in Cyprus, carrying a knife, unlawful possession of drugs, and assaulting a police officer. The arrests reflect the police's commitment to addressing a broad spectrum of criminal behaviour and ensuring the safety of the public.
The police conducted checks on 629 drivers and 131 passengers throughout the night. In addition to the arrests, officers inspected 44 premises, which led to six reports of offences. The operations also highlighted the ongoing issues related to traffic violations, with 295 cases recorded during the night. Among these violations were 83 instances of speeding, underscoring the need for continued vigilance on the roads.
As part of their traffic enforcement efforts, police impounded four vehicles and conducted 95 alcohol tests. This resulted in three drivers being reported for drink-driving offences, further emphasizing the importance of road safety.
The police noted that such operations are not isolated incidents but rather part of a daily strategy to increase police presence, conduct targeted checks, and take immediate operational action against crime.
