**Title: Five Arrested in Overnight Police Operations Across Cyprus**
In a series of coordinated police operations conducted overnight, five individuals were apprehended for a range of offences throughout Cyprus, according to a statement released by the police on Sunday. The operations aimed to enhance public safety and enforce compliance with the law.
The arrests encompassed various violations, including public insult, refusal to provide personal details to authorities, driving under the influence of drugs, being drunk and disorderly, malicious damage, common assault, and drug possession. These actions reflect the police's ongoing commitment to addressing a variety of criminal behaviours.
As part of the extensive operations, law enforcement officials stopped and checked a total of 885 drivers and 397 passengers. This proactive approach was complemented by inspections of 62 premises, which led to 10 formal reports being filed against establishments for various infractions.
Traffic enforcement was a significant focus of the operations, resulting in 309 fines being issued to drivers. Among these fines, 99 were specifically for speeding violations. In addition to the fines, police impounded eight vehicles deemed unfit for the road. Furthermore, the operations included 391 breathalyser tests, with 22 individuals reported for exceeding legal alcohol limits. Notably, one preliminary drug test conducted during the operations yielded a positive result.
These overnight operations underscore the police's ongoing efforts to maintain law and order across the island, particularly in relation to traffic safety and public conduct. The authorities continue to encourage citizens to adhere to legal regulations and to cooperate with law enforcement personnel during such checks and inspections.
