A 38-year-old man was arrested as part of the investigation, while the Kofinou Regional Police Station continues its inquiries. According to the information under investigation, at around 11.45 pm on August 28, the two men arrived at a petrol station in Larnaca district in the 32-year-old’s vehicle to refuel. During refuelling, while the 38-year-old was near the fuel pump, he allegedly lit a lighter, resulting in an ignition and the outbreak of a fire. Nearby residents extinguished the blaze using a fire extinguisher. The fire caused damage to the 32-year-old’s vehicle and the fuel pump. Police and Fire Service officers attended the scene, along with an ambulance crew, which transported both men to Larnaca General Hospital. Medical examinations found that the 32-year-old had suffered a superficial burn to his left hand and was discharged after receiving treatment. The 38-year-old suffered second- and third-degree burns to his legs and right hand and was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital for treatment. However, on the morning of August 29, he was discharged at his own request. Later that day, at around 3.30 pm, the 38-year-old went to Larnaca Airport intending to travel to the country where he permanently resides. At the airport, police officers arrested him under a court warrant issued as part of the investigation. Following his arrest, and due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was transferred back to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was admitted to the Burns Intensive Care Unit. His condition is described as out of danger.
