According to EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou, the faults caused by the storm were extensive, while the authority’s call centre received around 18,000 calls from citizens reporting electricity problems yesterday alone. EAC crews continue restoration work, although power has not yet been fully restored in some areas. No clear timetable has been given so far for the completion of all repairs. The severe weather caused widespread disruption across Cyprus, including fallen trees, damage to properties, fires caused by lightning strikes, as well as incidents involving damaged electricity cables that resulted in sparks and explosions. The EAC continues to assess the condition of the network and respond to reported incidents, prioritising the restoration of electricity supply in affected areas.
