**Mother Drowns in Larnaca as Two Daughters Remain Hospitalized**
A tragic incident unfolded at CTO beach in Larnaca on the evening of October 16, when a 35-year-old woman drowned while attempting to rescue her two daughters, aged 12 and 13, from rough seas. The family, all European nationals, had been enjoying a day at the beach when the unfortunate event occurred.
The mother and her daughters entered the water around 6:20 PM, shortly after lifeguard services had concluded for the day. Witnesses reported that the sea conditions were still challenging, with significant waves posing a danger to swimmers. As the three struggled in the water, bystanders quickly recognized the situation and rushed in to assist.
Despite the efforts of those who entered the water to help, the mother was found unconscious when she was brought ashore. Emergency responders were called to the scene, and attempts to revive her were made, but she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The two daughters were transported to Larnaca General Hospital for treatment. The 13-year-old girl was later transferred to Makarios Hospital in Nicosia due to the seriousness of her condition. The 12-year-old initially remained at Larnaca General Hospital but was also moved to Makarios Hospital the following day for further care.
The family had been at the beach with their third child, a boy, who was staying on the shore with their father at the time of the incident. The police were alerted to the situation shortly after it began, and Larnaca police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic drowning.
This incident serves as a somber reminder of the potential dangers associated with swimming in rough seas, particularly when lifeguard services are not available. Local authorities are expected to review safety protocols at beaches to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
