The matter came to authorities‘ attention last night when neighbours of the single-parent family told police the girl appeared to have been alone and unsupervised at home since that morning, Phileleftheros has learned. Officers from the Paphos Police Directorate who went to the scene found the 11-year-old inside the house. She told them she was alone and that her father had left on a trip the previous day. Police immediately informed Social Welfare Services, who took over the child’s protection and care. Police also opened an investigation into the circumstances of the father’s departure and found he was due to fly back to Paphos Airport this morning. On his return, he is to be arrested, with a case to be brought against him for abandonment of a minor and exposing a minor to danger. Police investigations continue.
