**Romanian National Remanded for Two Days Over Paphos Burglaries**
A 44-year-old Romanian national has been remanded in custody for two days following a series of burglaries in the villages of Androlykou and Argaka, located in the Paphos district. The decision was made by the Paphos district court on Saturday, as authorities continue to investigate the alleged criminal activities.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that police have not yet completed their investigation. They anticipate gathering an additional ten statements from individuals connected to the suspect. The court was informed that the available evidence suggests the man may have been involved in multiple incidents of burglary, theft, and malicious damage reported in both villages over the past year.
One notable case discussed in court involved a break-in at a property in Androlykou on March 2, 2025. The complainant reported that generators and other equipment valued at approximately €225,000 were stolen during this incident. As part of the ongoing investigation, DNA evidence was collected from the scene, which may provide crucial information regarding the suspect's involvement.
In addition to the Androlykou incident, the suspect is also believed to be linked to another theft in Argaka, where generators and other items worth around €2,000 were reported stolen. Police have since recovered various items from both locations and have sent them for forensic examination to further substantiate their case.
The suspect appeared in court without legal representation and did not contest the order for his detention. However, he did express concerns regarding the conditions of his detention, stating that he was forced to sleep on the floor due to overcrowding in his cell, where two other prisoners share a single bed.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Paphos is actively continuing its investigations into the case, seeking to gather more evidence and statements that may lead to a resolution.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities remain focused on ensuring that justice is served and that any connections to the reported crimes are thoroughly examined. The court's decision to remand the suspect highlights the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address criminal activity in the region.
