The legendary Comédie-Française makes its first appearance in Cyprus with “L’Événement” (“The Event”), based on the searing autobiographical work by Nobel laureate Annie Ernaux. Conceived and performed by Françoise Gillard, the production is part of the Nicosia International Festival 2026. The story of a young woman in 1963 doesn’t stay locked in the past. The French singer, who found international fame with “Je veux,” brings a musical world spanning French chanson, pop, jazz, cabaret and her distinctive, raw vocal energy to Limassol. The lyrics draw on poems by major Greek poets including Angelos Sikelianos, Kostas Montis and Vasilis Rotas, alongside Petrou’s own writing.
