According to sources, the baby was taken to the hospital at around 10.30pm. On arrival at the Accident and Emergency department, medical staff found he had no pulse and was not breathing. Doctors and nurses performed CPR and the baby was subsequently intubated, but he could not be resuscitated. The duty doctor pronounced him dead approximately one hour later. Police were notified and attended the hospital, where they carried out an external examination of the baby’s body. No external injuries were found. According to the baby’s relatives, he had been unwell with a fever since June 23. On Wednesday his parents took him to a paediatrician, where he was diagnosed with gastroenteritis and prescribed medication. Pathologist Nikolas Charalambous has been informed and is expected to carry out a post-mortem on Saturday to establish the cause of death.
