**XM Group Backs Paralympian’s Un-aided Open-Water Record Bid to Fundraise for PASYKAF**
In a remarkable display of determination and resilience, Charalampos Taiganidis, a celebrated figure in Paralympic sports, attempted to break the world record for the longest continuous, unaided open-water swim. The event, which aimed to raise funds for the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (PASYKAF), faced significant challenges due to adverse weather conditions.
Taiganidis began his ambitious swim on the evening of September 16, departing from Coral Bay in Paphos with the goal of covering 151 kilometers to Oroklini in Larnaca. The swim was meticulously planned, with the supervision of the World Open Water Swimming Association and operational coordination by the Cyprus Association of Reserve Frogmen. The mission was also conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order of the Republic of Cyprus and the Hellenic Paralympic Committee.
Despite his extensive preparation and unwavering spirit, Taiganidis encountered winds reaching up to 7 Beaufort, which posed significant risks not only to him but also to the support crews accompanying him. After two days of battling the elements, the decision was made to halt the attempt for safety reasons. Taiganidis was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical examinations and recovery.
Expressing his disappointment at not completing the swim, Taiganidis remained optimistic about future endeavors, stating his intention to attempt the record again. His commitment to the cause and his resilience in the face of adversity have made him a source of inspiration for many.
