Three people were arrested in the operation. The raid began yesterday afternoon, when YKAN carried out a search under judicial warrant at the home of a 32-year-old in Larnaca as part of efforts to identify and arrest people involved in drug trafficking. A relative of the 32-year-old, aged 23, was present at the house during the search. Officers found four firecrackers, two flares and €13,250 in cash in the 23-year-old’s room, all seized as evidence, and arrested him for flagrante offences. The 32-year-old was not at home at the time. A relative called to tell him police were there, and a YKAN officer asked him to return so the search could proceed. He said he could not come at that time. Driver crashes trying to flee checkpoint While this was happening, other YKAN officers were searching a field belonging to the 32-year-old under a separate warrant obtained earlier. A car driven by a 31-year-old approached the field while officers were there, and they signalled him to stop using police lights. On spotting the officers, the driver tried to flee, crashing into three police vehicles before coming to a stop. A YKAN officer was injured in the hand in the collision and was taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where he received first aid and was later discharged. The 31-year-old was arrested for flagrante offences. A search found him in possession of 24 grams of cannabis, a grinder with cannabis traces, precision scales and €100 in cash. Cannabis found in cool box The 32-year-old arrived at the field shortly afterwards. In his presence, officers searched the site and found a cool box containing five packages of cannabis, with a total gross weight of 910 grams, along with various other items. He was arrested for flagrante offences. All the items found during the operation were seized as evidence, and the three suspects were rearrested under judicial warrants and remanded in custody. YKAN, working with Kofinos Police Station, is continuing the investigation.
