Three open meetings have already been scheduled, following the Interior Ministry’s announcement that a new Local Plan will be drawn up. Planning office ALA Planning Partnership Consultancy will take part in the meetings. The first meeting will be held on September 1 at 6pm in the event hall of the Livadia Municipal District. The second follows on September 3 at 6pm in the Amphitheatre of the Oroklini Municipal District, with the third taking place on September 7 at 6pm at Larnaca Municipality’s Multipurpose Social Welfare and Employment Centre. The meetings will present the process for preparing the new Local Plan, the timeline that has been set, and the basic principles and directions of the urban planning. They will also include an analysis of existing planning zones and the challenges affecting the future development of each area. According to Larnaca Municipality, residents who attend will be able to submit their views on the form urban development should take and on the future of the city of Larnaca, and of Livadia and Oroklini. Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras told Phileleftheros the meetings concern “the wider urban planning of the city that will also determine policies,” not only which areas are residential. He said the plan would cover development issues as well as green space, calling this very important, and urged residents to take part in the meetings to learn more about the plan. In a statement, Larnaca Municipality said the new Local Plan represents an important opportunity to jointly shape Larnaca’s vision for the coming years, describing the goal as “a modern, sustainable and human city” that makes the most of its characteristics and potential and responds to the needs of the people who live, work and are active there.
