In the first case, at around 11pm last night, a female police officer on patrol in the Larnaca area spotted a vehicle being driven suspiciously. She signalled the driver to stop for a check, but he failed to do so and accelerated instead. The officer followed him, calling for backup at the same time. Members of the Rapid Response Unit (ARU) arrived at the scene immediately. The driver continued driving carelessly and dangerously, and at one point lost control of the vehicle, which went off the road and came to a stop in a ditch. Subsequent checks found two 34-year-old men in the vehicle. A search of the car turned up a nylon package containing a white, compact powder, later confirmed to be cocaine, with a mixed weight of approximately 1,570 grams. The two 34-year-olds were arrested and brought before Larnaca District Court today, which ordered their remand in custody for eight days. In the second case, as part of an investigation into information on drug trafficking and dealing, members of the Limassol Anti-Drugs Squad (YKAN) stopped a vehicle carrying two 30-year-old men at around 10pm last night. A search of the vehicle turned up a nylon package containing cocaine with a mixed weight of approximately 510 grams. The two 30-year-olds were arrested and appeared before Limassol District Court this morning, which ordered their remand in custody for six days. The Larnaca and Limassol District YKAN units continue their investigations.
