Residents have shared footage of thunderstorms hitting neighbourhoods and villages, while police have urged motorists to take extra care because of heavy rain affecting the motorway network. The Department of Meteorology said developing cloud cover during the day is expected to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms over the mountains, inland areas and the east. Hail is also possible during thunderstorms. The unsettled weather is expected to continue until at least Wednesday.
